Lunch in Venice - recommendations???

DH and I will be in Venice for a day and a half in late September. Since our time is so short I don't want to waste time searching for somewhere to eat lunch. Trip advisor is mind-bogglingly full of thousands of places to eat and narrowing it down is hard, so some personal recommendations would be really helpful.

Criteria are:

  • not too pricy (have an evening meal booked when we'll blow the budget!!)
  • preferably to the east of St Marks Sq
  • traditional venetian style (food and surroundings, while being big enough to guarantee we'll get a table and save further wandering!)

We've never been to Venice before and I don't really have any idea of the length of time it takes to walk from place to place so any help on how long it might take to get to suggested restaurants would also be gratefully received.

We've been to this restaurant three times over two trips to Venice, it's very reasonably priced at lunchtime and the food was excellent each time. Lots of Venetians seem to go there. It's also directly up from the San Stae river bus stop so easy to find which is good as Venice is the easiest place to get lost in.

Thanks for that suggestion, it looks exactly the sort of place I had in mind. Any idea how long it takes to get there from St Marks area?

About ten minutes walk if you don't get lost.Smile Otherwise take the river bus, think it's two (?) stops possibly three. Will ask DS1 when he gets back, he lived in Venice last year so a bit more knowledgeable than me.
