My mum wants to take me away for a weekend. Can be anywhere really - in the UK, or a short flight away. Am umming about London but not sure where to stay etc. Maybe Amsterdam? Hmm.

She is in her 50s and i am in my early 20s so there has to be stuff for both of us.

Too much choice I think.

What time of year? You could do the lovely Christmas markets in the european cities like Salzburg etc.

Paris is always lovely for culture, wandering around the Seine, shopping etc. oh and the food!!!

York is lovely for a weekend, nip across to Harrogate, or into the Dales for peace and quiet and a good walk. The Star at Harome, a short trip outside York is a GREAT place to stay and eat.

You could do London, don't worry about where to stay, get somewhere on laterooms, but focus on a really good show you'd both like, there is a great exhibition about the 1960s at the V&A, have smart tea at The Ritz, wander round Covent Garden, dont know if the Queens dresses are still on display at Buckingham Palace, but my mum really enjoyed seeing those recently. Mums always like the store Liberty, great place in there to have lunch or tea.

Hope that helps!
