Can someone talk me out of New York in half term?

Planning a short trip over October half term with 3 and 5 year old. Had quotes for Premium Economy and a central apartment for 5 nights. I'm that close to booking but I would love someone to point out any bad things or practical advice I have missed.
We were just planning on doing one sight or attraction a day, not too much walking and no shopping as I know the DCs won't enjoy that.
I'm personally really excited about it but sometimes you need someone to say 'have you thought about ...' or 'what about if .... happens' sort of thing.
Any help or advice would be lovely (weather, what to take, whether its actually worth going with 2 small children etc)

Thank you

didn't think you could rent appartments in the centre of new York. who are you thinking of booking through (look back through some of the old threads on this, they explain the issue better than I can ) awful long way to go with jet lag for essentially 3 days there as you will be travelling one day there and one day back. if you want to go because you want to go then go for it. but not really what I would want to do with such young kids personally.

i love New York but I'm not sure id do it with very little people - i don't see what they'd get out of it and your littlest wont even remember it. unless you think you'll have lots of opps to go again in the future of course - I've only been once....

I personally wouldn't want to do it with small kids. But that's just me. I say go for it I it's what you want. It's an amazing city.

The natural history museums amazing. The dinosaurs are awesome.
