Berlin - where to stay - self catering apartment?

Thinking of planning a city break there and fancied trying a self catering option rather than sharing hotel room with kids. I have never been so don't know which area would be good. I would like to be able to walk to cafes, restaurants and some attractions/museums.

Any tips would be great - thanks.

My latest Boden parcel had a copy of 'Family Traveller' magazine in it, and there is an article about Berlin in it. They have a website, www.familytraveller.com, so I guess there might be something on there, but here are a few things the article suggests:

Circus Apartments www.circus-berlin.de
Brilliant Apartments www.brilliant-apartments.de

www.cafenest.de for eating

Places to Visit
DDR Museum, about life in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall www.ddr-museum.de
Loxx Miniatur Welten Berlin, TV tower to ascend for views, shopping and a miniature re-creation of Berlin in model form www.loxx-berlin.com

I have never been, but am going to keep the article for inspiration for a city break when our youngest child is a bit older (I'm thinking weekends away in cities might be easier without having to take pushchairs and nappies with us!)

Hope that helps!
