Can anyone recommend car hire firms? We are wanting a car in Italy for 10 days in August but the quotes I've has so far have been astronomical.

Try economycarrentals.com we've booked through them a few times and they usually find the cheapest deal. Car hire in August will be expensive though.

Have you driven in Italy before?

Nerves of steel required!

Am dreading the driving aspect of the holiday tbh. Also on-street parking in the cities as I have no clue about meters, tickets etc.

Do you have to drive? Italian trains are fabulous.

I am flying in and out of Pisa but staying in rural Tuscany near Florence so I am thinking I will need the car to get to / from our base and to sightsee. I did wonder whether there is a train from Pisa to Florence then I could take a taxi to our accommodation? But I'm not sure how feasible this will be with children and luggage....

We went to Rome last year car hire was £250 for a week. Hertz I think ( just asked dh he can't remember either)

Sixt or maggiore?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll get busy comparing prices.
