Am currently on holiday in Portugal . Flying back to London heathrow on Monday . Am terrified of catching Ebola either on the plane or from a toilet or person anywhere along the journey . Know am probably being over the top irrational but am just really really scared . For my children too who especially baby who had everything in her mouth . Am so scared it is literally ruining my holiday .

Unless you're planning on swapping bodily fluids with a passenger that happens to have Ebola, you'll be fine.

It is a scary thing that's happening but it's not something that you'd can catch just by sitting next to someone with it.

Angola is a reeeaaaally long wY from Portugal!

Zimbabwe used to be British. Their HIV+ rates are massive - that doesn't mean it affects the UK in the same way!?!

plinth · 01/08/2014 10:18

Oh hang on Angola isn't part of the outbreak.

So your reasoning goes; Angola is in Africa, Angola used to be Portuguese, you're going to Portugal, so you're at risk?

I suggest you buy a map and a book about contagious diseases.

this is utterly irrational, as I think you know.

if you cannot make yourself see this, please seek help on your return home. No shame in anxiety issues but get it treated.

there are risks in Portugal - please be very careful crossing the road.

Okay, that is NOT entirely true. Sure it's not "Airborne" meaning it can not travel on dust ..but if someone coughs on you and you breathe in the virus, I believe you ARE getting bodily fluids without direct contact. I am scared too. Fear can be good to an extent, it's called "self-preservation."

There's a surprisingly rational thread in AIBU about Ebola where people who know a lot about infectious diseases have explained why we shouldn't be panicking. Check it out. It may help you calm down.
