Cologne with teenagers

We are thinking of going to Germany in August. Does anyone have any recommendations for Cologne or the immediate area? We will be reliant on public transport.

Ideas gratefully received.

I stayed in Cologne once with work, it's a lovely place. They have a chocolate museum which was fab and I would imagine that teens would enjoy.

My parents took me to Cologne when I was a stroppy, indifferent 15 year old and I loved it (but of course did not let them kniw). Great place, cathedral is amazing.

Lovely city - popular with hen and stag nights - so a bit lively in the evening. Wink. I took 10 yo dd for a couple of nights in May. We explored the shops and the old town, did a boat trip on the river on the Saturday. On the Sunday we took the little road train to the zoo, but never went in and did the cable car over the river. I have to say that there is a nudist bit in the thermal spa which the cable car crosses over which caused no end of amusement. Lovely park with river beaches on the other side. I like Cologne much more than I thought I would. Lovely little squares, river promenade and restaurants.

Plus it is very easy to get the train up to Boppard and do a cruise of the most scenic bit of the Rhine with the castles and the Lorelei.

Agree with all of these suggestions - Boppard is great and a crusie up the Rhine will be lovely - we did this about 10 years ago and managed to get a lovely 3 course meal onboard for about 10-15 per head.

The cathedral is literally awesome.

There's a great "bohemian" area with loads of second hand shops, cafe bars & music shops.

I love Cologne and am desparate to go back!

Oh and public transport in Germany is AMAZING! It actually turns up on time and is relatively cheap. Fancy that?
