40th birthday coming up and looking at various options of what to do. Lille or Bruges via Eurostar one thought. Another would be go head for somewhere within few hours travel with beautiful scenery that could be enjoyed on a horse or bike. Any thoughts on location or recommendations of tour companies?

I have fond memories of a cycling trip round parts of Holland. If you stay near the borders, you can also cycle into Austria or Germany. The cycle lanes are fabulous and there are lots of windmills/flowers/little farms to look at!

From memory (this was a long time ago!), we stayed in a center parcs - it was v reasonable cost wise so if you have a bit more of a budget, you could probably find somewhere a bit more swish.

for Austria read Belgium

Am ROFL FIS. Mistaking Austria for Belgium is a good'un and no mistake. Although I suppose the Ardennes do roll a little

How about riding on welsh beaches?

There are plenty of lovely places to stay there
