Does anyone know any hints or tips for booking a last minute holiday?

We are looking at booking a last minute uk holiday in a couple of weeks time, we are hoping to get a cheap deal somewhere. We really mind where we go as long as it's child friendly and has a beach near by.

Anyone have any tips or ideas on where to look or what to do to get somewhere last minute

Thanks Smile

Be flexible - that's it really. I'm a travel agent and there are deals to be had but only if you can be flexible where you go, what dates and where you fly from. Canaries and Tunisia seem to be cheap this year so far.

Don't just book the first thing as you think its ok ( especially if there is a compromise)
Go to the tourist board sites of where you would like to go and then shortlist.

Hoseasons used to do last minute offers. They have sites all over the U.K. and some have pools and playgrounds.
You could also try Haven.
Some hotels have special offers if you book so many nights.
We have used IKnow and Last minute websites before, but usually book direct with the hotel for the best price.

What sort of accommodation do you want?

Holiday park/Static caravan?

Cottage/Flat?

Hotel/B&B?

If its holiday parks look on UKCampsite using their campsite search in areas/counties you like and see which ones have statics/lodges etc and then look at their websites for late availability or just get emailing away.

You should find something.

Bigger holiday park companies like Park resorts, Haven, John Fowler etc usually have a late deals section.

If you can do Devon look at Woolacombe Bay.

Thanks for the replies Smile

Devon is defo a possibility but is quite a drive away. I would ideally like a little cottage or something similar but don't mind going to a commercial place like Haven, butlins etc either.

Will certainly have a look at those sites for last minute deals too.

I'm concerned about just booking anything because we want to leave so soon and I quite like the adventure side of things but it is still our only holiday so want it to be good.... I'm quite worried because I usually research loads and look into every little aspect, reviews etc. and book miles in advance. So this is very strange for me

Thanks coconutty, that's really kind Smile

I'm panicking about it slightly because to me it's really soon but it's too far away yet for the last minute deals so just need to hold tight for a bit!

Keep checking. We had a mini break at a haven site lastwweek. We had a superior caravan for 4 days for £320. I booked it 6 days before we went, a week before I booked it it was still coming in at £390 and 2 days after I booked it, it was £420 !! So keep your eye on have and hoseasons, with trip advisor in your other browser. My friend has just gitgot back from the new quay (wales) haven and has raved about it.

Coralcolour · 04/08/2014 22:28

Oh fab chosen, thank you so much!

So you would go through trip advisor not the actual Haven/Hoseasons website?

Do you mind if I ask how many days you went for and what day you went on was it a Monday or Saturday?

Thanks

Monday to Friday. No I just had the reviews to hand to see if it was nice etc....but the trip advisor will have an advert e.g. 'short breaks from 329' . Have no idea why it goes up and down so just kept checking!

That's lovely thanks Smile

Will keep my eyes peeled!
