DH 50th Birthday special holiday - May Half Term 2015 - Where?

We would like to plan a nice holiday for next May half term - DH, me and DD (8) and DS (5)?

We fancy eastern Med region (Greece/Turkey/Egypt) in a nice hotel (AI a possibility if nice enough, but we like to see the local area too, don't want to be stuck in the hotel the whole time if poss). A villa with its own pool would be an option too. Sandy beach (for kids) and fab scenery (for me) too. DH would be happy with all/any of the above!

We love Lakka in Paxos, but there's no sandy beach for kids. But the picturesque, slightly off the beaten track, not very developed thing appeals.

Any recommendations of locations? (including any wild card suggestions - we were originally planning backpacking round Thailand but weather (rain) and political situation have put that on the back burner..)

I recommend looking at Sovereign holidays, not necessarily to book with them but they have lots of slightly upmarket but suitable for families type places that may work for a special trip.
Would you consider Cyprus, if so that could be another option?

What about Sicily? Two lots of friends have been there recently and both came back raving about it (though i haven't been myself).

We're thinking of India for my DH's big birthday though we have looked at USA, Vietnam, Mexico, Sri Lanka & South Africa too. Still time to change our minds. Am leaving the final decision to DH since it's his birthday
