I am planning to travel to US and have applied for a B2 visitors visa as i have a criminal record. I have been through the proper chanels but now i have received my criminal record back it looks far worse than i ever thought it was. It says that i have a charge of possession of cannabis on it dated 1998. Has anyone applied for a B2 visa with a drug conviction and what was the outcome please

have you got your passport back yet?has it got a chip thingy on page 31?

Donbean · 14/09/2006 14:16

not drugs but my FIL had to go through the whole thing this year.
When his came back, it was far worse than he remembered and than any of us could believe!
Anyhoo, he traveled to the American embassy in london for his interview, they couldnt ok the visa, had to send of to the US and eventually it all came back ok. He now has a 12 month visa.
I dont know if this reassures you but as it was 8 years ago, fingers crossed that it will be ok.

this year donbean or 8 years ago?
what happens if a person didne declare crim, record an just got a plain old holiday visa?

Donbean · 14/09/2006 14:29

my fil was 35 years ago!!!!!! I KNOW!!!! silly man was reading the tiny small print in the brochure and felt compelled to confess all.
However to the Americans no matter how long ago it was, it is still a blot on your character and must be considered.....i was mad with FIL i can tell you! (we have planned a family holiday for next year with fil, mil and us thought this would ruin our plans)
Having said all that, i know of 4 other people who have been in prison for one thing or another in thier youth and they havent declared this and go on hols every year to the States with normal ordinary passports/visas with no problems at all.
It doesnt always pay to be honest.
As mermaidens conviction was 8 years ago, hopefully she should be ok......

good god..just read my post back and i sound like i should go on Trisha with all my jail bird buddies!
They are all lovely lovely people who just made mistakes as youngsters.
While all this has been going on ive found out loads of stuff about friends and thier hubbies that i didnt know...dark pasts so to speak. Its been a real eye opener and very entertaining!

thanks for the replies, i have waited about 2 months for this visa appointment to get here, a B2 visa is just an ordinary visitors visa which i do need as i have a criminal record. Yes i do have the new passport with the chippy thing in and when you land in Florida and go through customs you have to do a thumb print on this machine thingy. My dna is now registered so there is no getting away with going on a visa waiver. Oh well all my friends tell me that i wont get one. i am not really getting any positive support i just hope that on the 19th the consulate officer sees me for who i really am not who i was. Since then i have bought my house, am a pa for a financial advisor so my life has turned around for the better. i just have to take with me a bundle of docs showing my status and that i have enough ties here to return. others tell me they let no one in with a drug conviction - i am so worried as i so want to go. if you get a refusal stamp then that stamp denies you entry into the states FOREVER.
