Passport validity for Spain

Travelling to Spain in 3 weeks my passport expires in November.I was under the impression this would be ok as it is in the EU and I have a British passport. Now a work colleague tells me I need to have 6 months on it after return date? Is this right?

Here we go:

Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay. No additional period of validity beyond this is required.

it always depends where you are going as different countries have different rules. As pp stated you only need validity for the length of your stay for Spain.

colleague talking nonsense. Spain is in the EU, so you need only enough validity for the duration of your holiday.

a classic 'I heard'. Always wrong.
