Special treat weekend - help me decide

We have several big anniversaries this year and would like to go away for a long weekend with kids (8 and 10) in October/November. We have narrowed it down to

  • Edinburgh by train from London?
  • Ireland by car/ferry?
  • Iceland?
  • NYC?

My favourite is Iceland, dh's favourite is NYC. Kids hate shopping, though.

Please help me make a decision!

Iceland
Although I would be interested to hear what's fun in NYC for that age group...
The other two places could be done anytime.

Hi,
I'm from Edinburgh and it is a great city, but can be cold and wet at that time of year without the redeeming features of Christmas market in December, ditto Ireland.
I can never see the attraction of going to NYC for a weekend - but then I'm not a great city/shopping person so it seems like a long/expensive trip for no real reason, particularly if you don't think the DCs would enjoy it.

Therefore I'm with you on Iceland - you aren't going to expect or need good weather and it will be a real adventure.

Edinburgh I love it there. If going without kids then NYC as so many things to do plus shopping plus at that time of year all the Xmas lights etc make it feel lovely.

Thank you! I will try and lure everybody to Iceland with the promise of bathing in hot springs and Northern Lights, I think! Smile
