Sanibel or Anna Maria Island ...or anywhere else

I'm looking to book a holiday just after Christmas for ten days with dh and three children aged 10, 9 and 6. I've looked at sanibel and Anna Maria island- anyone got any experience of these or anywhere lese you'd recommend for a get away from it all break in winter

No, Tasa, we stayed in a house.

My ex-h's parents got it for us. His dad was a high-ranking diplomat and knew someone who had it and let us borrow it for a week.

It was BLISS! Miles of beach. Delicious eye candy dotted along it, too.

Went to Captiva before kids (1994 so pre hurricanes)- stayed at Southseas Plantation, would love to go back there.

We stayed on Anna Maria Island for 8 nights in 2004 after two weeks in Orlando. I originally wanted to go to Sanibel but couldnt afford it, so we found a beach house on Anna Maria and fell in love with it. Its unspoilt, still got lots of locals, one even invited me in for coffee! It has a fantastic trolley that chugs around the island all day and up to 10.pm and its free! The beaches are like sugar with beautiful shells, lovely small shops, fantastic restaurants, oh I could go on. We are off to Florida in three weks time and are just staying in Orlando this time, but having seen this thread I feel sorry we wont be hopping over to Anna Maria! Still have details of the house if you want them.

I've been to Sanibel. We stayed in a condo on/overlooking the beach.
