Where to go in Greece?

Hi everyone,

We've never been to Greece before but are looking at going next Easter. We're a family of 4 (DCs, 12 and 10). Bit of culture, bit of pool, bit of sea (not all day on a beach though).

Probably a hotel, reasonable budget. Wouldn't go in Summer due to heat, but reckon Easter might be perfect.

Any suggestions on where to consider?

Take a look at santorini. Lovely island

Crete is lovely. A lot of the islands are really nice. Just avoid the big resorts.

Easter next year is 6th April - Crete yes, maybe Rhodes, but careful further north. It will indeed be pleasant Greek spring weather (i.e. like a UK summer but no guarantees of no rain/cloud.

most places don't have heated pools, because that is a silly idea in a hot country. Go in the sea and take shorty wetsuits for those that feel the cold.

remember you will still fry to a crisp if you don't slap on the sunscreen.

if you stay longer than a week you'll be there for Greek Easter, which is well worth seeing. Processions, firecrackers etc. (and all shops shut - note!)

I love the area around Kalamata and down towards Kardamyli on the mainland - it's a 2.5 hour easy drive from Athens. And from there, you can get to Sparta and Olympia.

The Ionian Islands (probably from May onwards), i.e. Corfu, Kefalonia, Paxos and Anti-Paxos. You can do an island tour to Paxos and Anti-Paxos (bluest sea ever). Corfu - maybe somewhere north, north east or north west, Kassiopia, Paleokastritsa, Sidari. Avoid Kavos (clubbing resort) and some of the populated east coast resorts. Kefalonia - beautiful island and fairly easy to tour the whole island plus can do a day trip to Zante.
