Post Office check and send - how to track

Sent in my daughters passport renewal via check in send a few weeks ago, called the Passport office who have no record of it.

As I used check and send it should have been sent through special delivery so thought I could track it that way. However Royal Mail will not help as I was not provided a special delivery tracking number. I have looked at both receipts provided and can only see the passport barcode number.

Am I missing something as I am certain I was never given anything other than a check and send form receipt that has the passport barcode on and a till receipt.

passportofficeforms.service.gov.uk/_/track-application.ofml

This is the form to check the status of your application. It says to enter you passport barcode or the number from your check and send receipt. You should get a reply within a couple of days by email.

Also I think you can take the receipt back into a post office and get then to track it. I'm sure I read someone saying they had done that. In case you get a response saying they haven't got it.

I have done that but they say that they can't find a record of the barcode number, so the application seems to have disappeared between handing it in at the Post Office and the passport office.

Because the Post Office never gave me a royal mail tracking number I can't tell if it has been lost or was delivered and is just not on the passport offices system.

I know it hasn't been that long but I don't mind a delay in processing the application just the fact that no-one knows where it is is a bit stressful.

Cross posted that is good that the post office may be able to track it.

When I spoke to Royal Mail they can't help without the royal mail reference number, if is them who lost it they I should be able to get a refund if I have to reapply for the passport but I obviously need that special delivery tracking number before they will involve themselves.
