Recommendations for Cape Cod, Nantucket, Marthas Vineyard with children?

We're off to Boston next summer for 2.5/3 weeks and want to make the most of the area.

We hope to make it to at least two of the above in that time but will have three small children in tow (5, 3 and 7 months) so are after family friendly accommodation in these areas.

I know that they will be very busy in the summer so I'm starting to plan it now!

Any recommendations?

HI Gem,

We spent two weeks in Cape Cod two summers ago. Admittedly, we didnt have a sprog yet then, but:

We stayed in Hyannis, which was central for trips to Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Provincetown, and also New York and Boston.

I can recommend the Green Mountain Inn and also (down the road) the Sea Beach Inn. Both had really friendly Innkeepers who couldnt do enough for you. Your best bet as a family is to stay in an "efficiency" which is really a self catering room.

In Hyannis you are close to lovely beaches, and within walking distance of the ferry port etc. There are nice little shops and restaurants, and even an outlet mall if shopping is your thing. We were there for 4 July, which was fun to see in a small town environment.

We found staying in Boston really expensive, even for just the two of us, although we loved the city and there was heaps to see there. A definite must is the natural history museum at Harvard University...wow.

There really is so much to see and do - we decided that we would definitely go back to Cape Cod on a family holiday as it was such a friendly place. There are loads of resources on the net, and we booked everything on line too.

Best of Luck with your planning.

Thanks for that - the Green Mountain Inn looks great. The Sea Beach Inn too. I have bookmarked them.

We have accommodation in Boston already (house swap) so we plan to use that as a base and have a few days at the seaside too.

Anyone else?

Hi - don't know if you're still looking for accomodation but my family ( 4 children aged 18 down to 6) spent 3 weeks in Boston, Martha's Vineyard and New York this Easter.

The CyberRentals site was really good for us - we rented a beautiful house in Edgartown in Martha's Vineyard for a week. House was fully kitted out for children (games, dolls houses, lego, playmobile, cots and high chair) and was walkable to everything we needed - beaches, restaurants, shops, parks etc. www.cyberrentals.com/USA/Massachusetts/Marthas-Vineyard/vacation-house-Edgartown/p105527.htm
Whole of the Island is lovely but Edgartown is picture book perfect .....
