Yes, lots backlog still, according to Radio 4 You & Yours today.

Yes unfortunately. Something like half a million in the system as of last week.
For reference my daughters and my nephews first passports took 6-7 weeks to process and we had to request a fast track in the end.
DD's should be delivered this week.
Took countless phone calls to MP to finally sort out.
My Friends DD's first passport took 8+ weeks, but she didn't need hers urgently.
If you need one quick don't risk it -book a same day or fast track. Not worth the stress.

Thank you - that's very helpful.

My son's renewal took less than 3 weeks, sent mid June.

suddenlysix · 14/07/2014 19:42

My babies first passport took 3 weeks 6 days, other daughters renewal was 2 weeks 2 days. Didn't contact them or email for updates.

suddenlysix · 14/07/2014 19:43

Sorry I should say this is in the past 2 weeks as well.

lexiferluther · 14/07/2014 20:47

It may just depend on where your passport goes to be processed - my DCs' renewals at Peterborough took about 3 weeks (submitted 12 June), my DN's renewal which ended up at Belfast and was sent about a week before we submitted ours is still not back!

lazysummer · 14/07/2014 21:30

Durham is also very slow.

crabwoman · 14/07/2014 22:48

All ours went to liverpool. Looking at he various travel forums, it would appear Liverpool, Belfast and Durham are where the biggest backlog is.
Applications don't always get sent to the nearest office - my nephew lives in Cardiff and his ended up in Liverpool.

lazysummer · 17/07/2014 00:42

How long did it take, zobey?

UnMasterChef · 17/07/2014 15:28

I got DD's renewal back last week, it took about 3 weeks, we sent it to the Peterborough office,no idea where it was actually processed

zobey · 20/07/2014 22:10

3 days for my dds 1st passport. Normal service. Not flying till september!

Just came on here to ask the same question!

DS will need his passport renewing before we go on holiday at Christmas but due to other short trips, there's only two time periods i can do it in.

So i have a choice of...

Between 30th Aug & 17th Oct
Or 1st Nov - 19th Dec

Both just around 7 weeks. Is this enough time for a renewal i wonder?

emjamow · 23/07/2014 08:56

My DS passport took 4 weeks to arrive - it was his first and I used check and send. I believe it went to the Belfast office. I used this tracker and got a prompt response passportofficeforms.service.gov.uk/_/track-application.ofml

The passport was processsed the day after I tracked it - don't know if that was just a coincidence. Good luck to everyone waiting for passports. I was stressing esp as we have booked a holiday (just like you are not supposed to!) I had a good experience with the passport office though - they answered all phone calls and were very helpful. Hopefully it is mostly the media sensationalising the whole thing.

Must still be a backlog.
Applied 27 June, Check and Send.
First Baby passport.
= nearly 5 weeks now
Still no passport.
Will start chasing up on Monday as travelling on 12/8.
