We're going to Ibiza this summer, family of 4, AI, one week

On the assumption we stay mainly in the resort but will travel out 2-3 times so see other bits of the island how much spending money am I looking at? DCs are 7 and 9.

I haven't got a credit card. I'm thinking of just using my debit card to make cash withdrawals when I am there - is that stupid?

Is there anything you would recommend we make a special effort to see/do while we are there?

Any other airport/ travel tips I need to think of? It has been at least 10 years since I've been abroad so not sure what has changed in that time.

Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the travel section of moneysavingexpert.com.

Debit cards are usually an expensive way to take out Euros. It's best to get cash before you go and think about a currency card - we have the Caxton one - which you pre-load and then withdraw your cash free. There is a small charge to obtain the card though.

We took cash with us but had a credit card for booking excursions (just back from Tenerife). Remember the liquids rules for hand luggage I.e. Containers must each be a max of 100mls and must fit into a clear resealable bag not bigger than 20x20cm. There are also new rules about electrical items in hand luggage I.e. They must be charged and able to be switched on if required

Make sure you get guaranteed buyback if you get Euros before you go, otherwise you will make a huge loss on unspent money brought home again.

We usually take about £200 in Euros and if we need more, withdraw it there. Sometimes you are charged per withdrawal though, so don't take out £20 here and there!

If you may use your debit card let your bank know beforehand so they don't block it for unusual use.

the liquids, gels and pastes rules may be new to you - check those for hand luggage. As noted, tell the bank where you are going.

and of course, get your travel insurance if you haven't already, plus an up to date EHIC card. The latter is free.

Thank you all - very useful information.

I'd never heard of guaranteed buy back.

Got quite a generous luggage allowance so will literally be carrying book, purse and keys in my hand luggage to be on the safe side!

Have you got your EHIC cards for you and your family? It allows you to get free healthcare in Europe as you would get NHS here, always worth having and free :)
Here is the link to apply;

Sorry if I'm telling you something you already knew :) have a fab holiday.
