Barcelona in Oct - transfers, apts etc

We've booked flights to Barcelona in mid-Oct and are currently looking for a 2-bed apt.

Bearing in mind we have a 1-yr old and aren't landing til 2130, I'm also panicking slightly about getting there from the airport (we're not bringing a car seat) and am wondering how easy it'll be to get the train into town and then the metro a few stops at that time of night? Would it be sensible to look for an apt near one of the train stations so we can avoid the metro on the transfers?

We're currently looking at apts near Placa Catalunya and Gracia - does anyone have any experience of either?

Thanks very much

which airport are you flying into? if its the main barcelona one we caught a cab - which was great and good value - couldn't you take a car seat?

pick pockets are a problem in barcelona espec on metro - or so everyone says. i would be concerned about going on this latish at night, with loads of stuff when i'm tiered with a child - i think you would be a prime target.

we stayed in the born area which was great....so sorry can't help on areas. brilliant holiday though

Thanks very much dreaming - we're flying into El Prat, which I think is the main one.

I wasn't keen on the idea of checking the car seat in (deep mistrust of heavy-handed baggage handlers) and we haven't got an extra seat for our baby on the plane to put it on, so presume we wouldn't be able to take it into the cabin.

Transfer one-way, with a hired car seat, is looking like it'll be around 65EUR - do you have any idea what you paid, approximately?

Glad to hear it was a good hol though - I'm sooo excited!

the apartment owner said 20-30 euros depending on how many people and luggage - i think it was 30 for us - 3 of us and 3 suitcases.
