Any tips for Rhodes?

We are off on holiday soon to Rhodes, staying in Pefkos.

Has anyone been before? Can anyone recommend some day trips / nice places to go / restaurants or anything?

We will go to see Lindos, but any other suggestions welcome.

Get some beach shoes as the beaches can be quite rocky. We went for a Greek evening at a taverna which was fun. I must say though that the people are absolutely lovely and welcoming. We drove to some little tavernas in the hills and they were great. No specific destinations though as my memory is rubbish. Sorry!!

That's really helpful Love, thank you.
We have a hire car too so we could go driving to find some remote villages and tavernas.

I didn't know the beaches can be rocky so that's useful to prepare for too.

Any tips about Lindos? Bet day / time to go etc? I hear it can get really busy as cruises stop over there for day trips.

Rhodes town is worth a trip ,my tip for Lindos would be do not pay a donkey owner to take your child up to the Acropolis ,because they don't wait for you and just leave aforementioned child alone at the top !

We did a lovely trip to Lindos by boat. They drop you off in the morning at the harbour and then pick you up later in the afternoon. Great boat trip. However, Lindos itself we didn't enjoy so much - packed with tourists and donkey owners shouting at you to get out of the way and very very hot to walk round. Most people say much better to visit in the evening when it is quieter.

We stayed in Pefkos - didn't have a car which was fine as we had young children who loved the beach - there are some lovely sandy stretches as well. Plenty of good restaurants in Pefkos. Have a fab time.

there's a car park overlooking the small horseshoe shaped beach that we always managed to park in. we didn't bother trying to park in the place where the coaches go as this looked really busy

Ooh thanks so much for these tips - very handy!

Somebody else had suggested that to us too 2munchkins so we may visit in an evening, maybe for dinner after a day by the pool.
Will definitely look out for that car park dreaming thank you.

Floral that did make me laugh! That would be quite an adventure for the DC!

we stayed in Pefkos once it is just holiday apartments and restaurents not rreally a village.
There is a short cut down to the beach through a cafe with an eccentric owner who charges a euro to walk thro his cafe (may have chnaged this is while ago)
A kind donkey man took my kids up to the Acropolis in Lindos and waited around for us to go back.
amazing trip in a glass bottomed boat past 'guns of navarone' beach.
I cannot think of a nicer place to go with kids.

That's a lovely review Nigella thank you so much.
I'll look out for the random man in the cafe!

We wanted to go on a boat trip too so that sounds ideal.

Thanks everyone Flowers

Yes Lindos is best done when everyone else has left - preferably in flat shoes . 'Donkey corner' in heels is treacherous !

If you have a car Agathi and Tsambika beaches are nice (as is Pefkos) - sometimes a little stoney going into the sea , but you will need swim shoes /flip flops because the sand is HOT !

There are two really nice restaurants in Lardos , Roulas and Valentinas - if you're looking for somewhere different to eat .

Simplesusan · 14/07/2014 06:28

Definitely take some comfortable sandals/shoes . Lindos is hilly but worth a visit.

Rhodes townies good too.

If you can go the southern part of the island , I cannot remember the name of the place, the medeteranian sea meets the agean sea and it is very picturesque. You can walk on the beech and go in both seas.

Rhodes is a beautiful island, enjoy your holiday.

We did Lindos early in the day, wasn't too busy till around lunchtime when it was rammed.

Went on an organised trip to Rhodes Town, personally would just catch the bus next time, well worth a visit and much bigger than you'd imagine.

I would recommend getting a taxi into Lardos village. Some lovely restaurants, our favourites being Bojangles just down from the taxi rank and Roulas for traditionally greek. There is a greek evening once a fortnight if you time it right.

StilaOnTheWrongPlane · 14/07/2014 13:20

Prasonisi is where the seas meet.

50 is it every fortnight now ? that's good , it was only once a month when I lived in Lardos .
