Where to go? Looking for nice beach, restaurants, harbour etc

Anyone have any recommendations for where to go, we want somewhere we can walk outside to nice beach, restaurants and a harbour, not to small little bit of hustle and bustle, probably even hire a car depending on the country.

La Rochelle? Though the better beaches aren't in the town itself.

San Sebastian?

Alvor in the Algarve.. Stunning beaches, lovely harbour, fab restaurants. Take a look at the Alvor forum on tripadvisor.

Why won't he go there? Missing out.
