Having browsed to death looking for inspiration for a summer holiday, I'm quite taken with the idea of Egypt and snorkelling in the Red Sea.
DC (12 & 9) love swimming but hate wandering around places. DH and I like a bit of reading and relaxing but need other stuff to do. I don't like holidays where I have little sense of where I am, so somewhere with just a hotel, pool and beach doesn't appeal.
But in the case of the Red Sea there's snorkelling and diving which adds a little something and makes it seem interesting. We only go away for a week so we don't need loads of activities anyway.
What's Egypt like in late July/ August? I see it often suggested as a winter sun destination but is it too hot in the summer?
We don't have a huge budget and I'm happy to shop around for a good deal or book everything separately. We're in the south so have a good choice of airports. Not bothered about kids clubs as DC like to do their own thing, but a decent family room with proper beds for DC (ie not roll out beds) is a must.
I've seen Marsa Alam mentioned and this appeals more than Sharm I think. Can anyone give me some hints and info on where best to go etc please?
