We've done these cheap hols in the past with varying degrees of success. However, the last park we went to (Dawlish Sands) was awful and put us right off. Having received an email saying the deal is about to run again, I am tempted to try and book something for October half term but am determined to do my research first and only book a park which has reasonable reviews.

So I am looking for recommendations please from anyone who has done this kind of holiday.

I can't recommend a good one but I can tell you to avoid the Pontins in Rhyl at all costs. We went there a couple of years ago and unless they've put a bomb under it and rebuilt the place it's the most depressing place in the country. The rooms were filthy and covered in damp, the beds had people's names scratched in, chewing gum stuck on the table, slimy dirty puddles on the floors, broken shelves and door handles, wet tissue flung at the ceiling... I could go on. We almost unpacked but decided we couldn't do it to ourselves and more importantly my step children who had never been on holiday before. We found the manager and be couldn't have been happier to refund us. He wrote my complaint up for head office and was giving me extra suggestions of what to say. He said the place was a dump and needed a complete refurb. Maybe it's had one now but I wouldn't risk it. We had to drive to the nearest pub, order dinner and google holiday parks on my phone. We found somewhere up the road (in Prestatyn) and got a lovely little caravan. It was the Robin Hood Park I think. We also stayed at the Haven in Hastings before and that was lovely but don't know if it's a Sun holiday park. Hope you find somewhere nice.

Do they still do Quay West? It's lovely round there.

Started yesterday.
We went to Pontins (somewhere near Hastings). First and last time we went to one. Awful. The staff were lovely though.
Haven have plenty of sites on the Sun offer.

We have had some good and some bad. Our attitude has been that it is only for a few nights. The only place I could have happily gone home is Pontins. The weather was so good it made us stay.
I think more importantly google the sites and how close other places of interest are. Some site are more remote than others and you seem to spend forever in the car

We went to Woolacombe Bay in the beginning of July. Had a lovely time and stayed in a very nice clean caravan there. I would say their restaurant is rather dated, but there are loads of nice restaurants right by the beach. You also can do activities at any of their 4 parks (bus service to other parks and beach).
