Hi,

I am due to go away with 5 friends next May school holiday to celebrate our 40th. Our original plan was to go to NY but with the prices of flights that is looking less likely. We have £900 each saved and it would be wonderful if we could get a city break somewhere special. We'd love a lovely hotel as we usually do budget breaks.

We have looked at Rome, Sorrento which looks beautiful but other than that we have no idea where to start. The world is our oyster...but we don't fancy Paris. Ideally flying from Birmingham

Any ideas well travelled Mumsnetters?

Thank you

Or if you have a week vs a weekend - Ischia.

Prague

When in May? Go to cuitadella, menorca for the fiesta de sant Joan. It's around the 24th of May. Not like New York, but something a bit different.

Utube some videos of it.

Cuitadella is actually a lovely little town!
Menorca is nice, particularly over that end. The beaches along Son Xoriguer/Cala n'bosch are white sand/turquoise sea, and beautiful.

Fiesta sound great but planning on a family holiday to Menorca in Oct so That's a no go, but you have now given me help on areas to look at for then, thank you. Ischia looks beautiful so will look into that. Will also look at Barcelona and Seville. One of the group doesn't fancy Prague so that rules that out.

Thank you. Any more?

I think Rome would be a good option, or Croatia is also lovely.

How about Berlin? It's fairly warm in May and there's plenty to see. If you like history and eating too much cake, it might be a suitable destination.

Venice - movies and food, Rome - history and food, Barcelona - culture and urban vibe & tapas, Lisbon - laid back with good food and music, Rekiyavik - so interesting, Amsterdam - history, art, modern design, canals.

So much choice you are very lucky. Have a lovely time.
