Child friendly Self-catering in the Florida Keys?

Hi,
Any recommendations for child-friendly self-catering in the Keys? DH has an annual conference in Boca Raton in November, and this year we thought we'd combine with a week in the Keys. DD will be 4.

Any more general recommendations on where to stay would be welcome too. I think we'd rather just stay in the one place than hop from island to island. DH and I stayed in the Keys years ago - Key West is lovely, we also stayed at Islamorada, and were less impressed. Key Largo was, to our mind, rather hideous.

Be very grateful for any tips and suggestions.

we found key west to be adult friendly but not so child friendly. if you visited without dc's maybe that's why. we stayed a bit a long from Islamorada in a 3 bed house that might be a bit big for you. are you looking for luxury or basic? I will look for a few ideas.

Thanks! Yes, we found Key West to be pretty 'grown up'. I think we'd be happy just going for a day trip. Plus the drive from there to Boca would be long!!!

Comfortable, clean and in good condition is most important to us. Spacious would be nice too! The conference resort in Boca is uber posh, so I can get my luxury-fix then when DH is working and DD is hopefully happily ensconced at the kids' camp!

Why not look at Fort Lauderdale, its a lot nearer and its calmed down a lot in the past few years (it used to have a terrible rep re Spring break).

Key West is not all that child friendly to my mind.

A day trip to Key West even from Miami is a drive of three hours each way and the traffic in Key West itself can be horrendous. Parking there is also a real issue. Many of the bridges connecting the keys are still single lane.

Hadn't thought of fort Lauderdale.

The day trip to key west would be from another location in the keys, not Boca! That would be insane!

I guess I thought the keys would be nice as it is sufficiently different from Boca, or elsewhere on the mainland.

we took a 2 yo to key west and had a great time. we had and apartment in the truman annex with a shared pool, and could walk to the beach at fort zachary or into town. we did day trips to dolphin research center and bahia honda key (beaches) . key west is easily walkable, we saw the sunset, visited the aquarium and the butterfly house... key west is child friendly, you just see a different side to the adults key west!
