My dh and I have a weeks holiday soon. Being a teacher on maternity leave I am keen to make most of cheap hol overseas outside of school holidays. My husband is reluctant to take dd on a plane. Thinks it would be too stressful for her and us. Is it? Advice needed

I think travelling with a 12 week old is a doddle really - they are so portable at that age!

Make the most of it while you can

Travelled on planes with both of mine from about 6 weeks - make the most of it before you reach the terrible twos!!

Most likely problems are cabin pressure on ears -breast or bottle feeding helps. Do also make sure that you or your partner get an aisle seat so you don't have to clamber over others to get to the loo. Take a small portable changing mat and small sachet of anti-bac wipes.

Enjoy!

Just back fromCorfu with a 4 year old and 15 week old. No problems at all. He grizzled on landin a bit but this was solved by feeding him constantly during this time. Go and enjoy, have a great time.

Went with dd probably a little younger than that and it was fine . She slept or fed most of the way. Much easier than 6 months later !

We wnt with our 4 month old earlier this year. fed her as the plane took off which helped to equalise the pressure and then planned to feed her on the way down but she slept. We were on a package holiday and did notice that the airline tried to give parents with children under two who have to travel on seats three in a row which helped as she slept on the seat in between us

Oh I travelled laong haul (11hours) with a 5 week old, he slept better than me!!!! on the way back he was 8 weeks and again...slept like a dream. Just needed a feed and a nappy change!

Best of all, we had to change plains and every take off and landing he would just go to sleep. I was nervous had a dummy at hand, he was not even interested

To add to everyone else - we went to corfu with dd at 12 weeks - she was sooo much less trouble than her 2 yo bro! Take a dummy for takeoff & landing, in case of ear trouble, but she was fine - just went for naps when she usually does. And worth remembering most if not all, airlines will let you take buggies to the door, excl of your luggage allowance, so she can nap in that whilst you're duty free shopping...!

I am . Complete doddle. You should see me trying to get on a plane with my 3 ds's, all under 5!

Good advice here - particularly about feeding/dummy on take off. I am dreading my 4 hour flight with my toddler - she has flown a few times and it is easier when they are tiny. When she was 9 months flight was great - she was entertained by everything going on. We flew with Thomson in June this year and they were fantastic with kids so good luck hope all goes well.
