Majorca - hotel recs?

Has anyone got any recs for hotels in Majorca?

I know DH would like to stay close to Palma, but I'd like a beach. If we could avoid car hire, that would be preferable but I'm not adverse to it. I've previously been to Pollenca and Can Picafort and loved it so I'm wondering about going back to that end of the island anyway. The only thing is, we always did self catering holidays so I have no idea of what hotels are like!

Mid-range budget, not a massive hotel but no small ones either. Close to either beach/town but not too noisy. No children but I'm pregnant so I'm really not fussed on nightlife. We like nice restaurants, going for walks, relaxing by a pool/beach.

I am desperate for suggestions as I'm having a rubbish time at work and really need a holiday!

We've stayed a few times at the Sol Guadalupe in Magaluf - really nice hotel, big pool, nice room, spotlessly clean. It's in a fairly quiet area, not on the nightlife strip! Walk to beach is less than 5 minutes. Hotel has entertainment in the evening, although we usually go out.
They do B&B or half board, we go only B&B because we like to eat out - there are nice restaurant along the promenade at Magaluf or you can walk to Palma Nova where there are more, takes about 20 minutes to walk.
We usually hire a car and visit places like Port Andtratx, Camp de Mar, Santa Ponca, Portal Nous, Port Adriano for the designer marina, Soller etc, all in easy driving distance.

I know Magaluf does not sound like everyone's cup of tea, but it has it's nice places - I even took my 80 year old mother and she thought it was lovely.

We stayed at hotel can cera in palma - it WAS smallish. Ut gorgeous (room 5 was fab) we could walk out to great shops/squares/cafes/promenade or take a ten min taxi to 'pura' beach club for the day - it was all lovely... It was just the two of us...
