Mexico December with a 5/6 month old

Hello,
We're currently expecting baby no. 1, due end of June. We want a hot holiday and considering Mexico in December, thinking around 13, for 10 days.

Has anyone does this and is there anything we need to think about regarding the baby. Like travel, will we have to take a car seat? Will it be too hot for a baby?

Thanks for your help! X

Hi, we just came back. We had a fantastic time. Think would be too hot for baby to be honest, 29 at night, thirties during day, babies get wingy in that kind of heat, it can be oppressive. Sun very strong, kids got a bit red even with factor 50 on. There were no people in our resort with babies that young and it was a family resort. If you don't mind staying in the shade and going indoors frequently for air con time, it may be ok. Depends on your expectations of a holiday with a five month old!

Sorry, yes take car seat and buggy.

But check travel arrangements re transfer from airport As many taxis and coaches have lap belts rather than seat belts which may not work with your car seat.

Thank you! Hmm, heat sounds like a deal breaker, I might check out the Canadiens instead.

Thanks for your thorough response.

Jetlag is a real consideration. some babies adapt well others don't - if you travel west a long way you may have several days of 3am starts to the day and/or very grumpy tired baby in the afternoons. I'd suggest somewhere with a similar timezone eg canaries or mauritius (tho it's very hot there in dec).

I'd suggest booking somewhere self catering, or going before your baby turns 6 months. as you'll probably start weaning at 6 months and it's easier to travel before that, unless you are self catering.

As heels says, remember you may not actually get much time lying in the sun since the baby will have to be in the shade and possibly even in the air com room quite a lot of the time. take a monitor and hopefully you can sunbathe outside the room while they nap though!
