Going with Thomson. Anyone know if it is easy to go to water parks , villages etc by local transport as the Thomson excursions seem really dear

Alvor is absolutely lovely. We had a car so drove places ourselves. I saw the bus for Slide and Splash water park stopped in Alvor, would be much cheaper to do this than go with Thomson.

Look at the Alvor forum on Tripadvisor, you will get lots of advice on there.

Enjoy.

Tickets for the water parks ( we like slide and splash) and other attractions ( e.g. Zoomarine) are available locally. When you get your tickets you can also get transfer by bus.

Lovely part of the Algarve- beaches are just beautiful!

Both slide and splash and zoomarine have buses that can pick you up, and you can prebook tickets online. We got a money off voucher for zoomarine at the airport, think we got the kids in for free and money off food. We hired a car for a few days, so made our own way using sat nav. It's a great area, have a lovely time.

We went to Alvor last year - it was lovely Smile

Went back to Portugal this year but to Albufeira in May/June and went to the Slide and Splash park. Was blummin brilliant! A bit expensive, but definitely worth the cost. I researched it a bit and found the easiest way to book for us was through an agent in a local supermarket. Cost a couple of euros more than booking online. I think it was €96 for 2 adults & 2 children including transport there and back (€9 each, but would be a bit cheaper from Alvor).

Enjoy!!

Forgot to say, the local buses around Alvor looked pretty easy to use and I think were reasonably priced. We had intended to go to Portimao for the day as it was so close but the weather was scorchio so just stayed by the pool/went to the beach most days.

Taxis are quite cheap too. The beach to the east of Alvor (Praia Tres Irmaos) is beautiful and is walkable from Alvor unless you have a very lazy 5 year old with you.
