Hello.

Thinking of going to turkey this summer. There will be 5 of us.
Would like somewhere not too expensive , not too British with a nice beach and to sample the local culture.

Also have to consider 3 teenagers who like pools and something to do, maybe beach activities?

Can anyone suggest anywhere please.

Have found apartments in gumbet which do half board but there view go gumbet has been a bit mixed.

Anyone been there and would you recommend it?

I'm watching this with interest as I've been looking at Turkey too. Apparently Kalkan is nice, but not much of a beach. It does have a couple of complexes of villas/apts with pools and activities, restaurants and bars etc.
I've been advised to stick with complexes or hotels rather than independent villas as teenage girls get a LOT of unwelcome attention from young locals!! I have DD17 and DS15; it's hard to keep everyone happy when they get to this age! Have a look at Patara Prince Resort (Owners Direct rent from there); accomm looks reasonable compared to say France or Italy.

Thanks for the advice 3cats.

Yes it is hard top please everyone my partner would prefer the more cultured side whilst my dcs like the all action pool type holiday.

Did look at renting a villa and whilst I'd be fine with this I don't think it would keep dcs occupied for long enough.

I didn't think about them being pestered by locals but that would make sense to stick to hotels.

I stayed in Altinkum a few years' ago, it's the same general area as Gumbet I think. It seemed a lot quieter, more families, although I was there this time of year rather than the height of summer. There didn't seem to be too many crazy bars, lager louts etc and there were plenty of authentic restaurants. I also went to see some ruins (Ephesus?i think) and there were other cultural things to do as well. The beach wasn't great though from what I recall.
If you are there as a family, I think your daughters will get less hassle. It was just my friend and I on our own so we got a bit of attention, but it wasn't too bad and they usually leave you alone when you are assertive about it.

I lived in Gümbet for a few years and have visited on and off for 20 years Smile

It is great there, lively in the summer months but it is fine for families. However if you think you would prefer something a little quieter maybe have a look at the next resort of Bitez, there are lots of restaurants but not as many noisy bars and your girls they could can wander safely without you having to worry.

The local men can be a bit full sometimes on but really they are quite harmless, if your girls pay them no attention they will be fine. Please don't think you have to stay in the hotel, no-one is going to pester in a bad way, they are just very friendly. I am married to a Turkish man so I know what they are like Wink

There are beach activities in Bitez and Gümbet plus lots of different day trips so I am sure you would all find something to enjoy.
