Looking for a top quality Thai or Chinese Restaurant in central Edinburgh

I'm taking dh to Edinburgh for his 40th at the end of the month. We're staying in George Street at Hotel Le Monde and as DH's food passion is Chinese and Thai, I'd like to book a meal in either of these on the Saturday night.

Can anyone recommend a great restaurant in a central location that has a good ambience and wont be full of big groups?

Thanks

Hi,

Haven't eaten out for ages but remember Ayutthaya 14b nicholson st (opposite fesival theatre, just a doorway so easy to miss) and Thai me up in Edinburgh 4 Picardy Place, near playhouse being good. Also believe Erewan oriental and Dusit good but never been to either but have several friends etc who really rate Dusit which is on thistle street.
Hope this helps
Have fun

Erawan oriental has closed, it was fab too . Thai Lemongrass (Morningside) and Thai Me Up (near the Playhouse, very central) are the 2 best I've been to (I love Thai food so have been to most of Edinburgh's Thai restaurants ).

The Orchid chinese restaurant on Castle Terrace is the best Chinese I reckon. Rainbow Arches on Morrison St does good Dim Sum.

HTH
