Sorrento in October?

Anyone been? Wondering about a half term trip for some autumn sunshine and a trip to Pompeii/Heraculaneum . . . But will it be warm enough?

It would probably be sunny enough though not especially warm by then. But if you're more interested in the ruins etc, it might be more pleasant than in the height of summer and there is still plenty to see and do that you wouldn't be bored if sunbathing was out- Capri, heading down the amalfi coast, a daytrip to Naples and so on.

We did it this year and on nov 1st it was 30 degrees and my children were in the sea! I highly recommend it, pompeii was well worth a visit. It was still very busy but nowhere near the maddening summer crowds.

Oh I am jealous! The weather will be gorgeous Smile

Pompeii is fantastic, as is the Amalfi coast. Positano is beautiful (if not slightly expensive)! I wasn't overly fussed on the Isle of Capri which surprised me but it might be your thing. Be warned, the ferry over was a bit rough and left me rocking for a few hours!

Enjoy your time!

When we stayed in Sorrento we met people who went to Capri and they were also underwhelmed by the island - and very sick from the rough crossing (and this was in August).

I should think that October would be an ideal time to visit places like Pompeii and Herculaneum. We went one August and it was far too hot.

You may find that the resort has wound down a bit by then and accommodation options are more limited. Soveryupset where did you stay?

Weegiemum · 02/06/2014 08:47

We were there last July, it was very hot. But fantastic! (Me, dh, dc of 9,11,13).

We had a villa with a pool but the pool was only available until end September. And driving was a bit scary for poor dh!

Pompeii/Herculaneum both brilliant, also the climb to the top of Vesuvius is very much worth the effort. We'd previously been underwhelmed by and overcharged on Capri, so didn't do that. It's worth a visit to Pozzuoli, especially the Solfatara crater with fumaroles, hot bubbling mud pools etc. there's also a good Water Park close by which we came upon by accident!

We went for the October half term a few years ago. The weather was perfect! One tip - unless you're very confident driving, don't hire a car. Sorrento itself was fab but streets v narrow, one way systems etc. as well as Pompeii, we visited Paestum. Very cool Greek temple. Capri rather an acquired taste I'd say.
