I have just booked to go again next year and can't wait.

A good place to visit off site is Maurodam (sp??) a huge model city....sounds naff but trust me it is great, with increadably detailed models of things like Shipol Aitport, complete with a/c that taxi out! Quite amazing and well worth a visit.

If the weather is iffy there is a sealife centre in Shrevingen. The bulb fields are quite nice, and the guardens there have a very good play area, lots of places to run around. Amsterdam is about 45 mins to an hour away, but we haven't don't that with the kids yet, might do it this year.

TBH there is loads to do on site, and you also have the option to hire bikes/go carts and ride around the miles and miles of totaly flat cycle paths.

We have a great time. If anything my two enjoy it more than Disney.

Don't rely on the shop on site for most of your food, as although it is OK for basics, it isn't that good. We stock up in city europe in Calais. Food on site resturant isn't that good. We don't find Dutch food that inspiring.

I considered this site before but had a nagging feeling it was a bit too Butlins, with hundreds of kids charging about. Am I wrong?

It isn't butlins, but there are loads of kids running round.

This more like centreparcs , but with a small theme park rather than the sports facilities.

This is not a restful quiet campsite to get away from it all, but it is great fun with the family.

rofl. Just found this thread whilst searching for something else - 12 months too late, lol.

It IS a fab holiday.

It is so not Butlins, lol, although would imagine it to be rather chaotic in highseason.

Had our first holiday abroad with ds here (16m) and had a fab time. Rented one of the cabins which was superbly equipped and it was quiet away from the main action. Free fun fair/play area & pool/slides complex and close to a lovely beach. Went on the faster hoverspeed from Harwich which was uncomfortable & hard work keeping ds entertained on crowded boat; took the longer ferry journey back - given a free upgrade to cabin, shower, baby facilities & free meal - which was so much more relaxing. Only downside was that dh fell over and cut his head open in the pool! Their attitude to H&S is so different - dh had to drive himself to hospital but once there they were so efficient and dh had 3 lovely female doctors fussing over him. Still would recommend it though, particularly if you have older children who need entertaining.
