Luxembourg - Saarburg

I have booked a few days away with the kids in July - we fly into Luxembourg, which is apparently 24 miles from Saarburg, where the resort is. It seems impossible to get any information about how to get from LUX to Saarburg by public transport. Is there a train? Bus?

It's complicated in that we don't even get to LUX until gone 4pm, so I'd like the quickest way to the resort, as they close the reception about 8pm I think!

Looks as though it's quite a faff of a journey, from LUX Airport to train station by bus or taxi, then train to Trier then local train to Saarburg.
Is there a collection service from the airport run by your hotel, or perhaps contact the hotel to get some advice on taxi hire?
There is a music festival in Saarburg, so local taxis must have a set price for the journey I would think.
Tripadvisor might be a good place to look for info, there could be a Saarburg forum.

It's a beautiful area, I'm sure you will have a great time once you get there.

Journey time by rail of just over two and a half hours according to the CFL website time table.

Thanks allalone - I have contacted the site 4-5 times to ask the best way by public transport, but they haven't replied. I can't believe I'm the only person ever to fly into Luxembourg, their own website shows it as nearest airport. I've looked into taxi, it's only 24 miles or so but v exp!
When is the music festival on?

It's more student masterclass than public performances.

Have you tried the Saarburg Tourist Information Office for travel help? I'd write rather than email, great swathes of Europe never respond to email at all!!

captainmummy · 25/05/2014 17:36

I've checked th Tripadvisor forum - I can get a train for 11.50Euro each, which is more reasonable. Then it's bus or taxi from Saarburg. The site don't have a transfer option, unfortunately, and emailed me back to say they can't even advise on public transport! I guess most people drive.

Oh well, it'll be interesting, anyway!

thanks for your help. Thanks

In Luxembourg the busses and trains are run by the same company, CFL so are much more integrated than here. There is sure to be a shuttle bus from the airport to the station. If your children are of an age to help carry things you should be alright.

Might be worth looking on German Yellow Pages for the phone numbers of a couple of Saarburg taxi companies so you have them to fall back on if the busses are infrequent, though the bus depo looks next to Saarburg station on the map.

Yes captain I've visited it many times, mainly the Wiltz area, and also Bastogne just over the border in Belgium. It a beautiful area with some lovely old towns, I'd quite like to live there, but never will Smile
