The things we forget tend to be:

washing-up liquid /dish cloth/ tea towels
salt, pepper (nothing more annoying than having to go out and buy it when you only need miniscule amount). In factwe take pepper grinder as I can't live without my black pepper

bin bags

Do they provide sheets? They usually do, but not towels. You'll need a couple of loo rolls, tea towels, dishwasher tablets (if there is one), washing up liquid. I always take a box with things like ketchup, cooking oil, garlic, coffee, sugar, tea bags, sanwich bags/cling film/foil, matches etc. I don't load up the car with food though - they do have shops in Cornwall!

Take a Bath Mat - place w stayed in didn't have one and the floor was grosse!! Slippers - as rest of place was pretty shitty too!! Antibacterial wipes, bleach, kitchen roll, scourers & sponges. (mind you bet your place is a palace)

Salt and pepper, sugar, tea bags, coffee, UHT milk, chocolate biscuits - all the little things that when you get there after stupid drive you always want.

a sharp knife, our cottages nearly always have crap ones.

marthamoo · 31/08/2006 13:17

Ooh yes, I always take a couple of sharp knives too, that's a good one bundle (I hate crap knives). Don't leave it in the drawer when you go, though (thus speaks the voice of experience...)

oh yes the bathmat thing -I can't stand getting out of the bath/shower on holiday and not having a bathmat

Thanks all - some brilliant suggestions. I was just thinking about clothes and stuff, didn't even think about household things!! Doh!!!
