We've had a bloody awful year and need to get away but don't have loads of cash. I've also not been abroad for ages so feel like I don't know where to start.

What I want is a cheap nice b&b or small hotel somewhere beachy and sunny in Europe but without any high rise ott tourist nonsense. We'd like a potter about and nice food.
Hoping to spend less than a thousand between us.
Flying from Manchester and flexible on dates in July/Aug/Sept.
Any ideas would be great..I've spent all morning looking and feel baffled Smile

Would you consider a half board at a resort in say sharm el sheikh? I've been looking at 5 star hotel and I think you might be able to get it just under 1K

If you can go in September you should get much more for your money.

What about Cassis in the south of France (near Marseilles)? It's gorgeous and as beach-y and sunny as you like, with no high rises, as far as I can remember. A boat trip round the calanques (bit like fjords) at Cassis is one of my best holiday memories evah. Also there's a shop on the beach that does something like 75 flavours of the most amazing ice-cream.

Or Coulioure - further south and west, nearly in Spain. I've not been there but my parents loved it. Sounded like a similar non-touristy small beach resort.
