Help Passport Office Durham Mess Up -

I applied to the Passport Office Durham last Thursday for my son's 1st British Passport on the Fast Track Service. He needs to travel tomorrow! Caught the Train costing £126 return from London to Durham. Informed them that I needed the passport latest by today. They assured me that that could be arranged and I should call on Monday 19th May. I called over 50 times on Monday but could not speak to anyone. Got through a couple of times and was told an e-mail was being sent on my behalf to the Durham Office. Yesterday, I called again and was told it had been sent to the Courier people. They gave me the Courier office number to ring. Upon calling the Courier Office, the Courier Office said they did not have the passport and that the Passport Office in Peterborough checked and found out that they had made a mistake in spelling my son's surname. I have been trying to get the Durham number to get an appointment today so that the amends can be made and I can pick up the passport today at Durham.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP? I HAVE SPENT OVER A GRAND NOW ON THIS, RUINED TRAVEL PLANS ETC, FRUSTRATION AND EMBARRASSMENT FOR THE POOR KID WHO HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG TO DESERVE THIS!

Go to Durham - if that is at all possible. Don't leave until you have the passport in your hands. I assume DS is under 16? If not, he will have to go with you (or by himself).

I could go into the wisdom of applying for your passport only a week before you need it but it really wouldn't help. Also, you were told at the time of application that they could get it ready in time so have every right to expect that information to be correct.

Good luck.

Also... there have been other threads on here regarding passport problems & some people have found that contacting their MP & getting them to phone through to Durham has worked!

You could also post in Chat as there is more traffic there & you may get more replies.

Out of interest, what number are you trying for Durham - the 0845 one has more success than getting through from the advice line.
