Passport in Belfast - will it arrive in time?

Just spoken to someone about my passport and apparently it is in Belfast, 'awaiting examination' which means it hasn't even been touched yet.

I need it back for Saturday at the latest.

It's not going to happen, is it? Please, someone give me some good news or at least some hope! Will be gutted to have to cancel our only family holiday of the year.

It depends on how busy they are (obviously!) But I don't think they are the busiest centre. I got passports back from there 3 weeks after I sent them, it was at the end of March so maybe not as busy and I live in NI but not sure that makes a difference.
5 or 6 years ago I got passports and it only took about 3 weeks and it was in June. But it's hard to say really. Can you call them?

VeryStressedMum · 20/05/2014 18:06

Also, how long since you sent the application?

OysterandPearl · 20/05/2014 18:07

I will call as soon as they open tomorrow. If it wasn't for this bank holiday it would have been three weeks exactly since I sent it.

Do you happen to know whether it's possible to fast track/upgrade to one-day if you applied online? Right now I will pay anything, ANYTHING, not to mess up this holiday.

TBH, I think you're going to have to fast track it to have any hope of getting it for Saturday

OwlCapone · 20/05/2014 18:09

Have y looked through the other passport threads that are currently active? They may have useful advice.

OysterandPearl · 20/05/2014 18:16

Yes, think a fast track of some description is the only way. Other threads suggest getting your local MP involved, so I've sent her an email.

Not sure what else I can do. Do they let you go and collect in person from the passport office? Would cost me about £200 to fly to Belfast (as long as they'd accept my driving licence to fly!).

Nightmare.

I think you need to speak directly to belfast passport office, try track down the number through Google. I've heard of people upgrading to fast track over the phone for a fee but you'll have to speak to the office that has your application not the enquiry line (I think).
You may be able to collect it in person if it's ready but again you'd need to speak to belfast.
And yes you can use a driving licence to fly to belfast.
Good luck!

VeryStressedMum · 20/05/2014 18:28

If you can't find a direct line, just call the usual number and ask to upgrade, start begging!!

OysterandPearl · 20/05/2014 18:30

Thank you, I will beg like crazy. Might even cry! I'm sure it wouldn't be the first time.
