I can recommend The White Mouse Inn. It was completely renovated downstairs about 4 years ago and is open plan. They have an indoor play area (small fee) in their garden.

I've been to IOW 3 times and am planning on another visit next year. My daughter of 9 really enjoys it.

The only place I can truly recommend for food is Cafe Mozart on the High St in Cowes. The pubs etc we ate in were generally ok, and had v good crab sarnies at the Crab (of course) in Old Shanklin, but we scraped the barrel a bit looking for somewhere really nice.
Cafe Mozart looks like all the other cafes on the High St and isn't particularly posh but their chef has a real feel for flavours and blends and their menu is superb - even their lentil soup was a thing of beauty.
Not expensive either when you consider what you'd pay for greasy tough steak and chips in a 'family pub'.

In Nodes Point, which is near Bembridge (look up St Helens on the map) there is a fantastic little beach front cafe. By day it does the usuals, but at night (and you must book) it does a great range of gorgeous food.... I ahd scallops with pumpkin seed salsa, but everything they did was just A1. It's overlooking the solent, which made for a grogeus evening too, and they even (shock horror!) id healthy yummy kids meals. I shall see if I can find the tel number

Ignore the crud name: it refers to the beautiful baya s opposed to the crud TV show featuring The Hoff
