We need to spend a day killing time before a late evening flight from Munich with 2 teenage boys.

Have had a look at Nabburg, Amberg, and Landshut - all look quite nice. Has anyone got any good recommendations, which would you choose to visit?

I don't know those but Regensburg is pretty close to Munich and very pretty.

I did 11 years in southern Germany. Nabburg, Amberg and Landshut and all very boring for teenagers - in fact, very boring places for everyone :-) I don't recommend them at all. Will you have been into Munich city centre already? That is the obvious place to spend the time - ca 30 mins on the train from the airport and plenty to do there. Other choice if it's summer is to find the local open air swimming pool near the airport - there is one in Freising (close to where the airport is) - it's not just a pool but a complex with cafe, slides in the Pool etc etc. There are lots of others in the area.

If they are into cars, BMW Welt in Munich is good and close to the Olympic Park.

If you stay in Munich the deutsches museum is good.
Regensburg is lovely (I lived there for 4 years) - stone bridge, cathedral, lovely cobbled streets and loads of great restaurants and bars.
Just over an hour by car from the airport yo Regensburg.

Thanks everyone for replying.

We've done Munich before and wanted something different.

Holiday has been all about swimming and hiking.

I think we will spend the day in Regensburg - sounds lovely and the dc don't mind looking at a bit of culture/heritage in small doses.

Go out to the Ammersee. Beautiful lake and very easy train ride from Munich. Takes about 45 mins from memory. You can do a lake cruise or wander about.

Great choice, Regensburg is really really fantastic! Lived there for a year, it's beautiful!

Augsburg is also pretty close and has lots to see and wander round.

Wooh! Go for Amberg! Where I come from, one of the best places on Earth! I highly recommend the Kurfurstenbad (without the accent), the most AMAZING swimming pool ever! Can't praise it enough!

Falconwolf101 · 26/09/2014 22:25

Yep, Regensburg sure is lovely. I know I'm biased, but still vote for Amberg! ;)
