Hi- contemplating the above, am clueless about where best to go. Ideally cottage but may consider holiday park/cp type places if they exist. Would need to be in an area with stuff to amuse ds who will be 13m.....any ideas gratefully received!!

I'm from Northern Ireland, as far as I know there aren't really any centre parcs/haven type places. There is plenty of self catering accom though. Whereabouts are you travelling from? Depending on your location it may be easier to come to Belfast (via Scotland/Liverpool) or Dublin (liverpool/wales). It is probably slightly cheaper in the north as it is sterling & things are generally a tiny bit cheaper, whereas the south you'll be dealing in euros.

What sort of things do you like doing? Certainly the north coast is great in the north and there isn't too much travelling either from Belfast (1hr drive) or getting about between things up there. You can also get over into Donegal easily enough.

In the south, you could head south from Dublin towards cork and the ring of Kerry or straight across the country (there are toll roads which cut down journey time) to the west cost and Galway. These would involve a bit more driving if you are heading beyond Dublin.

Have you been before or have anything particular in mind that you want to see/do?

Feel free to ask away Smile

We went to Northern Ireland in February with our 7 month old and stayed just outside the Giants Causeway here: www.bayviewfarmcottages.co.uk

The cottage was gorgeous, really family friendly and really well situated to see lots of the amazing north coast (Giants Causeway, Carrick a Rede rope bridge, Portrush and Portstewart, fantastic beaches). I'd really recommend it - using £ was a bonus too.
