Holidaymum · 29/08/2006 18:07

Yep, could happen to you anywhere.

TheBlonde · 29/08/2006 18:07

Yes

nutcracker · 29/08/2006 18:09

But haven't whoever it was that did it actually said that British tourists are the target ??

I don't think she wants to go tbh, but they've been told they can't cancel and get a refund unless Brits are advised not to travel there.

she can change her holiday to another destination though cant she??

Holidaymum · 29/08/2006 18:13

Turkey is a lovely place and whilst these incidents happen from time to time they are still rare! I'm an agent and deal with incidents like this regularly understandably its a difficult decision but places recover quickly.

nutcracker · 29/08/2006 18:13

Not sure emma, I think that when she spoke to the travel agents today, they were saying that if anymore happended then they wouold let them change the destination, but i don't think they are offering that yet.

I don't think i'd go, i wouldn't enjoyed it at all.

yes. just like i used the tube from brick lane to southfields with ds two days after 7/7.

it is still safer than crossing the road in london.

tiredemma · 29/08/2006 18:15

she needs to contact her actual tour operator nutty- she should have a head office admin number on her paperwork somewhere, they will be able to give her some info at least.

moondog · 29/08/2006 18:16

With respect, some paper pusher's opinion in aUK office is really not valid.

Turkish resorts safer than central London, that's for sure.

Anyway,season coming to an end.

nutcracker · 29/08/2006 18:19

Ok will tell her that emma.

I think that if given the opportunity she will go elsewhere but we'll have to see.

I know the risk is small and theres more risk crossing the road etc, but even so.

sorry moondog, I was only making a suggestion with regards to nuttys OP.

moondog · 29/08/2006 18:28

Oh absolutely TM.
All opinions valid I reckon.

Have been discussing this one a lot with Turks today.

Holidaymum · 29/08/2006 18:32

If she has booked through an agent they will have to deal with the tour operator for her as most won't speak to the client direct. Depends on the operator as to whether they offer other destinations and if they are prepared to change destination at such short notice, from experience most will for an admin fee and the extra cost of the holiday. Turkey is generally cheaper than most alternatives so it will cost a bit to change, some may even say its full cancellation charges as its last minute.

tiredemma · 29/08/2006 18:36

I know MD- its not going to do tourism there much help is it? - with headlines such as "Turn Turkey into Hell" theres no surprise that people wont want to book to go there.

Holidaymum · 29/08/2006 19:03

The media do the same every time theres a bomb, I know someone who has cancelled a Turkey holiday for Spain today, conveniently forgetting about the ETA campaign, granted I believe theres a ceasefire at the moment.

I also know someone who turned down Turkey and opted for Halkidiki and was evacuated after 2 days due to the fires out there. You pays your money and takes your chances wherever you go.

Even if you decided to stay at home you could get knocked down by a car or be mugged etc! Best bet is live life to the full and don't give in to the threats and terrorists or else they will have won!
