how would you open it? I do not want to lauch straight into a rant about it but cannot decide how to start it. I have more than 1 issue to raise.

I would start 'I wish to make a compaint about......'

I recently wrote a letter of complaint and started it like that anyway!

I would probably start it "I recently stayed in your hotel and was very disappointed to find that....." somthing along those lines!

What are your complaints? I've written several to several hotels. I'd start it with:

Dear Manager

We stayed in x hotel on x nights and I'm writing to express several concerns (complaints, no idea how strongly you feel, obv!) about xyz.

Bullet point 1- the beds had bugs
Bullet point 2 - the view we had been promised was of a coal scuttle. We expressly asked on booking that our room should NOT overlook the coal scuttle
Bullet point 3: the chambermaid woke us at 3am to

You get the idea.

I'd stick to facts too, don't use emotive language and stay polite and professional.

And do it as soon as possible after your stay, did you mention it to any staff at the time? if not they may wonder why.
