Inspiration for Family holiday in July

Hi, we are looking at going away mid July with our 8 year old, however we don't usually have holidays in the summer.
Can anyone recommend a nice family orientated place to go that isn't too quiet but is close to amenities & I know that abroad will be hot in most places but is there anywhere that's a tad cooler. Thankyou

If you don't want the beach and pool, you could try the French Alps, such as Evian Resort, for lake and mountains instead. If you did want beaches, then Portugal may be your best bet, as it gets some Atlantic breezes that take the edge off the heat, somewhere like Sheraton Algarve has a good kids club.
