Staying in Italy - day trip to Rome by train

Really looking forward to this years holiday in Tuscany, we are driving from Glasgow - yes its long! But we are about a 3 hour drive from Rome so achievable as a day trip, DH doesn't fancy driving into Rome itself (don't blame him!) so looking for suggestions, I had thought of driving as close as we could and park somewhere and get a train in? Is this realistic? Smile

Why not just drive to the nearest station to where you are staying that has trains to Rome? Parking will be an issue but save yourself additional hassle. The express trains are very good. Local ones less so and can be cancelled!
