Just that really? How formal are cruise ships nowadays? I don't wear (or own) any dresses and only ever wear jeans, chinos and t-shirts. I don't want to be be horribly underdressed and feel out of place but I also don't want to buy anything. I have one pair of black trousers and that's about it.

Which cruise line? Thomson are very informal, but some others expect you dress for dinner( not necessarily A dress, but no shorts or flip flops)

Royal Caribbean.

Black trousers with a nice top, or a t shirt and jewellery, or a neck scarf. I wouldn't wear the jeans to dinner, but chinos should be ok with the right top.

Where's the cruise going to - cruise critic is very good for information forums.

You would def. feel underdressed on formal nights and the food in the buffet (where people are more casually dressed) is not as good. Floating around in a posh (even if cheap) frock if part of the fun. it is really magical. As recommended www.cruise.co.uk/cruise-answers/
is helpful.

Apologies for the triplicate message - and only the end bit! My computer playing up. Should have started saying you will have a fab time on RCI but recommend going on e-bay and/or TK max and get a couple of dresses. some don't dress up but the majority do.

I bring one little black dress and that gets me through the formal nights with a change of accessories or scarves.

I'm going on a Royal Caribbean cruise as well so was interested in this. So thanks for the info. I did see the recommendations on the RC website in the FAQs about dress code. I guess jeans during the day is ok but is it common? I'm bringing nicer clothes for the evenings & a few dresses for the formal evenings.

mirpuppet · 08/06/2014 21:05

Jeans or shorts fine in the day. Dress up for formal dinners or go to teh buffet. I have sailed Royal several times enjoy!

I'm not old, I love a cruise we are of to Norway this summer, and I love to dress up. So yes to a dress, even if it's cheap you'll feel more comfortable (enjoy) love love love cruising Smile

Sorry don't know why I needed to say anything about age (ignore that bit)

Sammy3 · 10/06/2014 00:02

Great to hear that jeans are common in the day. Thanks
