Visiting Athens NEXT WEEK with a 1yo! First holiday!

Hi Mums! I'm off to Athens for a long weekend next week with my 1yo son and husband. Husband will be at a work conference during the day so it will be just myself and my son hanging out during the day.

We are staying at the Athens Ledra hotel.

Anyone have any advise for travelling with a baby in Athens?

Things to do? places to eat? best beaches to hang out? baby-friendly places for entertainment? any travelling tips or advise?

It's our first trip with the baby so feeling excited and nervous!

Thank you xoxo

The Athens metro is very buggy friendly with lifts to all platforms in the centre.

The pavements however are not so take care; there are a lot of broken paving slabs.

You can borrow baby carriers and leave your buggy near the ticket office for the Acropolis. The acropolis museum is wonderful and has a great baby change (unusual for Greece). The National Archaeological museum is also amazing but the areas a bit grotty.

There's a lovely playground in the National Gardens, the end closest to the temple of Olympian Zeus.

The beaches close to Athens aren't great. There's a decent one a voulagmenis and Varkiza (taxi rides away). You generally have to pay to go onto the beach and then for loungers etc.

Most Greek people love children and will chatter to your DC. It is also common for small babies to be up much later than in the Uk, in restaurants for dinner etc.

Have fun!

you need to be quite a way from Athens before the beaches are decent, let alone the water quality.

Plaka is touristy, but you're a tourist - shady and traffic free, and as noted babies are popular in Greece! The boulevard below the Acropolis is lovely and unbelievably quiet.

remember lots of suncream and keep the kid in the shade.

thank you this is so helpful. I don't mind jumping in a taxi to get to a decent beach.

Perfect, we were planning to give DC a bath, get him in his PJ's and head out in the evening for dinner hoping he might fall asleep in his buggy! But we don't mind if he's up later than usual either :)

Thank you! I will be checking your reccy's out! xoxo
