Looking for ideas for a holiday in the Bulgarian mountains with a 1 year old!

Hello,
We'll be spending about 10 days in southern Bulgaria this July, probably in the Pirin mountains though we haven't decided yet (suggestions welcome!). We'll have our tent with us (we're going camping in Greece first), but I've heard camping in Bulgaria outside of the popular coastal regions is not straightforward.
Ideally we would stay in a little log cabin (basic is fine, we are used to that!) in the mountains or near a lake. I've looked online but when I search for self-catering accomodation I mostly find big ugly blocks of flats!
If you have any advice/experience or good ideas, please help!

Oh and I'm happy to be corrected if I'm wrong about the camping not being easy in Bulgaria. I'm just looking for any advice at all really!:-)

Not in Pirin, but on a lake. Relatively new, modern camping site.

In the mountains people camp near any of the chalets for a small fee and use the (very basic!) facilities. Lots of people go 'wild camping' with no facilities - usually near lakes, rivers, etc.

How long are you going for, what is your budget and what are you hoping to do?
