Dominican Republic- what's the start of the rainy season like?

Lovely friend's daughter is trying to book a holiday for her parents as lovely friend has just been very ill and needs to top up her vitamin D levels. She's found a deal in the Dominican Rep but it looks like the start of the rainy season- is it likely to be tipping down every day? Will there be any sunshine?

I went during the May half term so late May/early June and it was sunny all week with one downpour while we were eating our lunch which lasted an hour. I have also been during Feb half term and had 3 half days of cloud so weather was worse.

We have been in April, August and late October/November. Every time there has been some rain, but it comes down in heavy sudden bursts and then clears up. I think it is largely luck.

With the DR, you do need to do some research to make sure the hotel is good quality. Trip Advisor is a good source of advice. Also check out the transfer time. We would have happily taken our Grandkids back to the hotel where we stayed last August, (Bahia Principe el Portillo), but Thomson/First Choice who are virtually the only UK operators going to that part of the DR, have changed airports so the transfer is now four and a half hours rather than forty minutes.
